Raindrops keep falling on my head...

The Montreal Road Street Party 5 June 2012

As we set up, the rain was on its way so residents erected an island of gazebos in the middle of the road. This was the first time Montreal Road had ever been closed off for a street party. Neighbours shared diverse homemade food while chatting and introducing themselves.

Peter Fitzgerald kept the mood upbeat with a mix tape of classic hits on his PA system. The kids made masks, had faces painted and even played some traditional games in the rain.

The finale was the Hanover combo the Brown Stripes. These gents were resplendent in old army uniforms. Their amazing thumping rock music included versions of Kate Bush, Abba, E.L.O. and Queen. The rain now hammered down on the tarpaulin but the 80 or so residents and guests just put up their umbrellas and bopped.

A huge thank you to Peter and Yolanda Osborne for inspiring this great day and to all the residents who made the event possible. Thanks to Brighton Council for allowing the street closure and thanks to our local sponsors.
